We wish to inform you of complete closures on the Jacques Cartier Bridge at night from 1 AM to 4 AM fifteen times from February to June, in order to replace 12 bearing devices.

The work will be taking place underneath the bridge and will require complete closures in order to avoid overloads caused by vehicles. The goal is to slightly lift a section of the deck using powerful jacks and to replace the bearing devices. Nearly 336 tonnes (740,000 pounds) will be lifted during each of these major manoeuvres, which will be taking place late at night, in order to limit disturbances for road users.

The first complete closures on the Jacques Cartier Bridge will be taking place as follows:

In the night of Sunday, Feb. 19 to Monday, Feb. 20 (1 AM to 4 AM);

In the night of Tuesday, Feb. 21 to Wednesday, Feb. 22 (1 AM to 4 AM);

In the night of Thursday, Feb. 23 to Friday, Feb. 24 (1 AM to 4 AM).

We invite road users to visit this blog. Each of the complete bridge closures will be announced in the days leading up to the closures. It is also possible to register to our Twitter account, RSS feed or newsletter, in order to receive any recent news concerning obstructions to traffic.

ROAD WORK ON THE BONAVENTURE EXPRESSWAY DURING THE DAY

We would also like to inform road users that repair work on the pavement of the Bonaventure Expressway will take place starting Saturday, February 18 at 5 AM until Sunday, February 19 at 3 PM. This roadwork will require the closure of one out of three lanes towards the Champlain Bridge at Exit 2 for approximately 200 meters.

Please note that these closures could be rescheduled due to weather conditions and progress of the work.

Nous désirons vous aviser que les travaux annoncés pour cette fin de semaine sur le pont Jacques-Cartier sont REPORTÉS en raison des conditions météo annoncées.

Seuls les travaux dans la nuit de lundi à mardi restent en place.

We wish to inform you of steel repair work underneath the Jacques Cartier Bridge over the course of <del>next weekend, January 27 to 30, as well as in</del> the night of January 30 to 31, according to the following scenario:

<del>In the night of Friday starting at 10 PM until Saturday at 5 AM: a single lane open in each direction;</del>

<del>From Saturday at 5 AM to Sunday at 11:59 PM: 2 lanes open in each direction;</del>

<del>In the night of Sunday at 11:59 PM to Monday at 5 AM: a single lane open in each direction;</del>

In the night of Monday at 9 PM to Tuesday at 5 AM: a single lane open in each direction.

This work will therefore require the closure of three out of five lanes on the Jacques Cartier Bridge in the nights of <del>Friday to Saturday, Sunday to Monday and</del> Monday to Tuesday, and then the closure of one out of five lanes during the day from Saturday to Sunday; all the bridge’s lanes will be open for rush hour on <del>Monday and</del> Tuesday mornings starting at 5 AM.

<del>Outside of weekday rush hours, traffic on the Jacques Cartier Bridge is normally kept to two lanes in each direction, so this roadwork should not cause a major impact on traffic, and also considering there will not be any work on the Champlain Bridge, nor in Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel during this period.</del> However, road users are invited to use these alternatives in the nights of <del>Friday to Saturday, Sunday to Monday and</del> Monday to Tuesday since only one lane will be open on the Jacques Cartier Bridge at that time.

Please note that these closures could be postponed due to weather conditions and progress of the work.

We would like to wish you Happy Holidays! Obviously, no work will be carried out on the Champlain and Jacques Cartier over the next few days. We also remain in close contact with the MTQ to optimize the use of all lanes of the bridge as traffic trends.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for following on us on our blogs, Twitter, Flickr or YouTube. These networks allow us to inform you of the work that is carried out on each of our structures. To this effect, we invite you to read or reread our summary of the work that took place on the Champlain Bridge Corridor in 2011.

Thanks to these tools, we are able to keep you informed in an efficient manner and you also have the possibility to easily share our advisories with your family. For this collaboration and your ongoing support during our closures, we thank you!

2011 has been a very unique year and we realize, now more than ever, the huge challenges we face on our roads. The next several years will be particularly important in terms of the maintenance of structures in Quebec and, obviously, our Corporation will be at the heart of these challenges, as overseer of essential links between Montreal and the South Shore. Your collaboration will indeed be invaluable in helping us in the realisation of such important work. On our end, we will continue our efforts to keep you informed as efficiently and as regularly as possible concerning upcoming closures in order to help you plan your trips.

Communication will be a fundamental element in facing these challenges and issues and, we will continue to seek ways to improve and develop even better tools to keep you informed. Please do not hesitate to share any of your recommendations and ideas with us.

Finally, on this festive occasion, we wish you a wonderful holiday season filled with happiness among your loved. We look forward to hearing from you in 2012!

We wish to inform you of the exceptional opening of three lanes on the Jacques Cartier Bridge towards the South Shore during rush hour on the morning of Friday, December 23 due to the complete closure of south bound lanes on the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel.

Given this exceptional situation and due to traffic being lighter right before the holidays, traffic during rush hour will be carried out on two lanes towards Montreal and on three lanes towards the South Shore. This measure will ease traffic for road users wishing to access the South Shore via the Jacques-Cartier Bridge, the main available option due to closure of the tunnel. However, traffic towards Montreal may be more heavy than normal at this time of year.

Our Operations and Maintenance team will remain vigilant throughout Friday morning in order to quickly intervene if traffic becomes too heavy towards Montreal.

This decision was taken in collaboration with the Ministère des Transports du Québec. The Corporation wishes to extend its full collaborate in order to ease traffic during this difficult period. The opening of the central lane on the Jacques Cartier Bridge towards the South Shore will be open over the next several days until the tunnel’s southbound lanes can be reopened.
